Facial Peels

About once a month our bodies shed their skins but the shedding doesn’t occur in complete sheets. Instead, a skin cell is lost and – just as quickly – a skin cell is replaced. This is the regenerative process.

Chemical peels can help speed up this process and is still considered the “gold standard” amongst Skin Professionals. A chemical peel is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that is designed to dramatically improve the appearance of the skin. Every chemical peel involves an application of a chemical solution to the skin, which improves skin texture through the removal of damaged skin layers. As these damaged layers of skin peel away, fresh, healthy skin is revealed through the regeneration of new skin cells.

Chemical peels are one of the most popular aesthetic treatments for the face as they provide immediate results and treat a wide range of skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, scarring. Our peels are designed to be powerful yet gentle so you will not have the long downtime usually required with stronger acid peels usually performed by dermatologists.

Am I a candidate?

Although anyone who wants to rejuvenate the appearance of their skin can be considered as a candidate for a chemical peel, individuals who have light-colored hair and fair skin are the best candidates for receiving a chemical peel. While individuals who have darker skin tones can still be considered for the procedure, there is an increased risk of developing an uneven skin tone. Deep wrinkles, sagging skin and deep sun damage or scarring may need to be treated by combining other procedures such as facial injectables or even plastic surgery.

Preparing for a Chemical Peel

Whether you’re novice on peels or have had prior treatments most people will need to get their skins “prepared” for a chemical peel. Pre-conditioning treatments or certain moisturizers may need to be applied to the skin for a few weeks before the procedure. We take great care to provide treatments that will be safe and adequate to your skin and that’s why we take our time to assess all these during your consultation. We also use a technique of “patch test” where we’ll “test” your skin’s response to stronger peels by applying a small amount of the peel behind your ear and provided there’s no significant reaction we can then proceed to the next level of peel, if necessary so that reduces the risk of reactions on the whole face.

Chemical Peel types

We offer 4 levels of peels, each for targeting a specific depth. For better results it’s recommended a course of treatment from 3 to 6 peels performed at a specific interval of time as we need to give time for the new formation of collagen and healing from the controlled wounding.

1. Exfoliating Polish Peel

This is our most superficial peel and is suitable to most people. This deliciously refreshing Antioxidant scrub helps invigorate the skin with the use of a gentle acid, while active blueberry extracts exfoliate and nourish the skin to restore a youthful glow without irritation. Your skin will feel smooth and bright even after one treatment of 45 minutes.

2. Illuminize Peel

True to the name your skin will glow after this peel. It’s an epidermal peel for mild skin imperfections such as hyperpigmentation and/or fine lines. These unique peels are powerful yet gentle, so suitable even for the most sensitive skins. As with most peels a series of 3-6 treatments is recommended for maximum results.

3. Vitalize Peel

This is our medium depth peel and it’s great for the treatment of mild to moderate skin problems. It will smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and also roughness. Noticeable results after only 1 peel, compelling results after 3-6 sessions.

3. Rejuvenize Peel

This is our deeper peel and it will treat moderate to severe skin conditions. Due to its deeper penetration into the Skin it will induce the production of collagen thus creating a more youthful appearance with firmer and tighter skin. This peel also helps to increase the skin’s moisture level offering an age defying, smooth textured complexion. There’s a little downtime with this peel due to it’s strength and consequently the shedding of the skin.

What should I expect?

Treatment usually takes 30-45minutes. Your Skin will be thoroughly cleaned to remove surface oils and the agent is then applied and timed, we can neutralize it at any time.

Slight discomfort, if any, may occur. The skin may also turn a light shade of pink or a deep red (deeper peels) after the procedure. There is no downtime associated with a light chemical peel and patients can resume their normal activities afterwards. For deeper there may be swelling and itchiness and the skin will peel for 7 to 14 days.

We may recommend a “micropeel” which combines the advantages of microdermabrasion and chemical peels for deeper penetration.

Sun needs to be avoided at all costs and effective sun protection needs to be used, we recommend medical grade sunscreen from SkinMedica.

Our “little” extras…

Firstly we only use gentle yet effective acids which will give results and not downtime as we understands most people need to carry on with their everyday activities and cannot “hide” from society. A long-term approach to the skin is always preferred over a short term drastic one.

With your safety in mind we use a technique of “patch test” where we’ll “test” your skin’s response to stronger peels by applying a small amount of the peel behind your ear and provided there’s no significant reaction we can then proceed to the next level of peel, if necessary, so that reduces the risk of reactions on the whole face.

We make it relaxing for you! Just because this is a medical grade procedure it doesn’t mean you need to be uncomfortable. You can expect the same lever of relaxation from a facial.

Depending on your skin and the depth of the peel we’ll apply SkinMedica products on the new fresh skin to promote even higher levels of rejuvenation and protection. It’s a great way to test the products and provide nourishment to the skin.
