It is a minimally-invasive non-surgical and nonablative procedure for facial rejuvenation that involves the use of a micro-needling device to create controlled skin injury. As each fine needle punctures the skin, it creates a channel or micro-wound. The controlled injury triggers the body to fill these micro-wounds by producing new collagen and elastin.
At FaceSpa we use the Dermapen skin needling device which is is safer and more effective in “piercing” the skin than traditional skin micro needling rollers due to its unique vertical micro needling technology and controlled depth. The device can also be used to infuse anti ageing products into the skin such as vitamins or hyaluronic acid.
The benefits of skin needling are:
The Dermapen promotes scar-less healing and natural collagen reproduction, similar to fractional laser treatments, IPL, laser resurfacing, and chemical peels, but without the side effects and downtime. The mechanism of injury is a natural process, which makes Dermapen a holistic approach to skin therapy. Four major phases of physiological wound response help in stimulating new healthy tissue growth:
1st phase (1-3 days)
Treatment causes an inflammatory response, which promotes the proliferation of inflammatory cells. The body’s platelets also respond to initiate a wound matrix. This response is the early phase of cell migration to remove debris and bacteria and stimulate the next phase.
2nd phase (3-5 days)
During the second phase the new cells formed from the first phase continue to proliferate and multiply. New collagen will be laid down and deposited with new skin formation.
3rd phase (5-20 days)
Next a fibrotic response of growth factors are released and the cells finally start releasing collagen.
4th phase (28 days to 2 years)
Finally, the maturation stage of new healthy skin takes place. Collagens mature and stiffen and the matrix of new tissue shows 80% to full tensile strength.
Scars are areas of fibrous tissue that replace normal skin after injury. Acne scars result after skin follicles become blocked by excessive oils and the physiology of keratin and old skin cells trigger an inflammatory response reaction.
The Dermapen® treatment can provide drastic results improving the appearances of the scars. The physical nature of “skin-needling” breaks up this fibrous and uneven scar tissue and stimulates the growth of new tissue. While each patient is different and conditions will vary, the typical treatment regimen will consist of 5-6 treatments.
A wrinkle is a fold, ridge or crease in the skin. Skin wrinkles typically appear as a result of the aging processes resulting in a thinning of the epidermal layers of the skin as they lose the ability to retain moisture
The Dermapen® promotes a process of new skin growth through the science of Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). The most effective way to stimulate or “Induce” new skin is by micro-needling with the Dermapen’s® vertical stamping method. This new stimulation can be done quickly and easily while keeping the epidermis intact and down-time to a minimum.
Skin conditions are different as well as the age of each patient. 2-3 aggressive Dermapen treatments will provide a noticeable difference, however 5-6 Dermapen treatments will show the most dramatic results.
Scars are simply thick patches of skin that form over healing wounds. As the body heals from an injury, it uses collagen as a framework to repair damaged tissue. This is an important and necessary step for healing -- think of it as scaffolding that lets builders repair a wall. But collagen has a different color and texture than the surrounding skin. As a result, there's often a visible mark left after the injury heals. After severe injuries that involve missing tissue, scars can be pitted or craggy.
The Dermapen’s® unique vertical stamping and depth control up to 2.5mm makes treating scars superior to other methods or rollering. With surgical steel integrity, the robust nature of the automated needle tip penetrates difficult scar tissue dramatically improving appearance, texture and elasticity.
