AJAX

AJAX is a tool that allows the user of a web app to interact with a webpage without being constantly interrupted by the web page reloading. It is a frontend tool that is used to communicate with the backend of an app.

Anchor Text

The clickable text within hyperlinks in web pages. Typically coloured differently or underlined, they connect users to more details about topic.

Automagically

Complex topics like coding can be difficult for users to understand in web designing. But automagical techniques make these complicated processes seem simple, as users aren't required to get into the complex technical parts of doing the functions.

B2C Web Design

B2C web design means creating a website that will directly target end-users or customers to sell them products and services. To be successful, it is critical that the design of a B2C website is user-friendly and attractive.

Backend

The Back End refers to the server-side operations of a website that user does not access directly.

Backlinks

The links from a website that appear on another website are called backlinks. These links appear in the form of text known as anchor texts.

Bad Neighborhood

Bad neighbourhood in the digital world refers to websites that have been downgraded for using inappropriate methods such as spamming, paid backlinks, and keyword stuffing.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth in web hosting means how much data is sent from the host's server to the user while loading a webpage.

Below the fold

Below the fold is that part of the web page that the users cannot see unless they scroll down to the page.

Bounce Rate

The bounce rate is used to analyse the web traffic. Bounce rate refers to the percentage of visitors who enter the website and leave rather than continuing and engaging on the website. Hence, the term ‘bounce’ is used.

Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs are digital footprints that help users locate themselves on web pages. They are visible at top of the webpage to provide a clickable trail.

Browser

The web browser is software that acts as the gateway between the user and web server on the internet.

This refers to the storing of file copies in temporary locations to enable quick access. Web browsers cache Images, JavaScript, and HTML files to help websites load quickly.

Client-side

Client-side web development is design and development of everything that user interacts while loading a webpage or application.

Comment

A comment is information provided within the website's source code. These comments are not executed when being read by the computer.

Content Management System

Content Management System (CMS) is a software that helps you create and manage websites with the help of an easy-to-use interface.

CSS Framework

Provides a framework consisting of tailor-made designs and tools that aid in developing a website.

Deprecated

Deprecation in IT means, that even if something is allowed or available, it is not recommended for use; it is superseded by better alternatives.

DHTML

Dynamic HTML combines features of different web development technologies to make web pages interactive and dynamic. It comprises HTML 4.0, JavaScript, CSS, and DOM and it’s not a markup or programming language in itself.

Dithering

The process of adapting images for 8-bit formats such as GIFs, which can only accommodate a maximum of 256 colours, requires dithering.

Doctype

Doctype is an HTML declaration used to instruct the browser about the HTML version used. This is included in the head section of the HTML file.

Domain

A domain name is a unique website address on the internet that helps users find your website.

Domain Name System (DNS)

DNS or Domain Name System translates the Domain name into a number format called IP address. IP address helps the internet locate a website when a user searches for its domain name.

DTD

DTD or Document Type Definition refers to the rules on how to structure an HTML or XML document. These ensure the standardised rendering of websites across various browsers. DTD is a guideline for web pages.
