Domain

A domain name is like a digital address for a website that locates your website on the internet. A domain has two parts- the domain name and a top-level domain. In google.com, google is the domain name, and .com is the top-level domain. A domain registry is an organisation that manages the domain names. Users enter the URL containing the domain name on the address bar, which takes them to the website. When users enter a domain name, DNS (Domain Name System) translates the domain name into a computer-identifiable IP address. DNS servers are database that consists of all the IP addresses associated with the domain names. Domain names are useful as the users need not keep in mind the complex IP addresses to locate a website; instead, they can search using the domain name.
