Usability

Designers measure the usability of a design right from the wireframe until the final product to ensure usability is maximum. Usability is important because users can become annoyed if they don’t find what they want quickly. You can expect a high bounce rate if your site is difficult to use. You will also have fewer visitors returning, reduced conversions, and lower referral traffic.

While there’s no one-rule-pleases-all when it comes to usability, there are a few factors that can impact the usability of your design, and can help you improve bounce rate and conversions.

  1. Proper navigation – when there are multiple pages on a site, ensure there are clear and proper menus that help users navigate the site easily.
  2. Performance – if your site loads slowly and feels sluggish, it may lose favour with users in spite of stunning design and easy navigation. 3 seconds is the maximum time it should take.
  3. Readable – majority of the content users interact with online, is text-based. If your text is not legible or easily understood, it’s a usability issue. There are many ways to ensure readability – the right font and size, white spaces, breaking it down into smaller paragraphs, using bullet lists, and so on.
  4. Responsiveness – it’s not enough for your site to look amazing on a desktop or laptop, it must look just as good on a mobile. With more people preferring to browse on their mobile devices, ensuring responsive design is critical.
