Google Dance

What is Google Dance?

Google Dance refers to the unpredictable changes occurring in a website’s ranking, way too quickly than expected. In other words, it is used for understanding the ranking volatility of websites particularly during updates. Google Dance  is  temporary ranking fluctuations during search index updates

Why is it called Google Dance?

Before 2003, Google used to update its index monthly, and the changes affecting ranking during that process were termed “Google Dance”. As updates were rolled out monthly, it was necessary for Google to remain active and couldn’t go offline. “Dance” was particularly used for how the system was being updated in its stages across its servers.

Since 2003, Google has shifted to investing in frequent and smaller updates that happen weekly, with algorithms and index changes. Thus, the term is less common in use today.
