A permanent link or permalink contains the domain name and the slug, which is basically the part of a URL that points to a specific page on a website and is easily readable. This could be a date, category, or something similar. Permalinks should be simple and make URLs easy to understand and share.

Permalinks are important elements of a website as both human visitors and search engines use them to visit your site and index them. The type of permalink you choose affects the way they see and value your site. A URL with random numbers and alphabets is not appealing and becomes difficult to share.

URLs and permalinks should be short, simple, and SEO-ready.

For example – https://acodez.in/category/ux-ui-design/ is easy to understand, and remember. But if you create a permalink like https://acodez.in/12.5/ b6701  it doesn’t make sense to the user!

The permalink you use should be aligned with your goals. For example, news sites may use dates so that users can find news for a particular date; however, if you’re writing generic content, it’s best to avoid dates so that it doesn’t look old. Here you need a permalink that will be good for a long time to come. You can use categories to create a hierarchy, but it could result in lengthy URLs.

Permalinks should not be too long, nor too short that it doesn’t give an idea about the page. Permalinks help build website structure, boost site SEO, and allow people to bookmark pages.
