Bounce rate
What is Bounce rate?
Bounce rate is a metric used for calculating the number of page visitors who leave the website for reasons, like finding difficulty in engaging in the website. It can be derived by dividing single-page sessions by the total sessions. High bounce rates are not seen as favourable as they can affect the conversions websites aim for.
The bounce rates can vary following the analytical tools used. In Google Analytics 4, a session to be considered as “engaged” is met with criteria such as:-
- The duration of the session is greater than 10 seconds.
- Triggering conversions.
- Have at least two page/screen views.
If not meeting these above criteria, the website is considered as not engaged. Thus, you can expect bounce rate on the way. Simply put, bounce rate is not a metric that defines the visitors leaving the website without reading the content.
It’s the concept that explains that the user is in a rush to find the page in SERPs, and it’s called a bounce, as the users might be checking other pages or bringing changes into their search query, so that they can get the queries fulfilled.
