Application (app)
An application can be downloaded and installed on various digital devices, such as smartphones, computers, tablets, etc. from app stores like Google Playstore, or Apple store. Based on their functions, apps are categorized into entertainment, educational, utility, productivity, and communication apps. Applications are responsive and interactive, it respond to the user’s data input and provide necessary output. There are various types of apps and some of them are given below,
Web-based app – Web-based apps can only be accessed using the Internet, and they can be accessed with a web browser and don’t need to be installed. Examples of web-based apps are Google Docs, Trello, Microsoft Office Online, etc.
Native app – A native app can be accessed only on a specific device. An app developed for Android will only be compatible with Android devices and not on Apple devices. Whatsapp, Spotify, Pokemon Go, etc., are examples of native apps.
Hybrid app – these apps have the features of both web-based and native apps. A single code base is used to create compatible apps on various devices. Apps like Instagram, Uber are examples for Hybrid apps.
Depending on the type, applications are built using different programming languages by mobile app development companies.
