Mobile-first

What is Mobile-first?

Mobile-first is an approach in which different websites and applications are built to adapt their content to mobile phones, which are increasingly used to access the Internet today. In other words, mobile experiences are a priority as most people spend an average of hours on mobile phones.

As mobile screens have limited space, this encourages enhancing the user experience by focusing on what is needed for the mobile users. This will require the content to be specialised over what the users will browse and read over the Internet. Thus, content is to be better engaging for the users by creating useful layouts.

Besides the content, designers must consider touch interactions, performance and the responsiveness of layouts.  Touch interactions over mouse clicks will easily help make buttons and links that much to serve the purpose. The applications are to be optimised enough to ensure speed and efficiency by minimising the code or optimising the image size. Lastly, developers aim to build responsive designs for their applications so that the content gets adjusted to the screen sizes and therefore, mobile-first be focused upon.
